Circular Economy Awareness Raising Workshop from Svay Rieng University

On Thursday, February 20, 2025, Svay Rieng University organized a Workshop on Circular Economy Awareness under the chairmanship of His Excellency Prof. Tum Saravuth, Rector of Svay Rieng University, and invited two distinguished speakers: His Excellency Dr. Hul Siengheng, Undersecretary of State, Ministry of Industry, Science, Technology and Innovation, and Mr. Chan Chhorn, Deputy Director of the Department of Environment of Svay Rieng Province.   

The workshop was attended by the Deans, Vice Deans, Professors, Teachers, and Students of Svay Rieng University, a total of approximately 170 people. This workshop aims to share the knowledge and experiences of speakers about the general concept of Circular Economy to faculty staff, teachers, and students of Svay Rieng University.

     According to Dr. Hul, the concept of Circular Economy refers to a production and consumption model that minimizes waste, reduces pollution, promotes the sustainable use of natural resources, and helps to regenerate natural resources. His presentation is about the Circular Economy (CE), Importance of innovation in CE, and the Key innovations areas in CE. Furthermore, the Circular Economy Strategy and Action Plan of Cambodia were also released to the audience. Questions and answers session were also done during the discussion. 

     According to Mr. Chan, the Circular Strategy on Environment 2023-2028 of the Ministry of Environment of Cambodia was presented in the workshop. This Strategy aims to turn the potential of the environmental sector into real benefits for the country and its people and promote the sustainable use of renewable energy in response to global climate change. The strategy serves as a roadmap, outlining priority actions to ensure environmental sustainability, integrity, climate change resilience, and the promotion of a green economy. Its goal is to realize the country’s aspiration of transforming into a carbon-neutral country with 60% of forest cover by 2050. The strategy builds upon the country’s accomplishments in the last 25 years and was developed in accordance with the Pentagonal Strategy. The Pentagonal Strategy is a 25-year strategy to fulfill and work towards realizing Cambodia’s Vision for 2050. It focuses on economic growth, job creation, equity, efficiency, and sustainability.
